Writing to remember, sharing to inspire

Some creatures believe wisdom arrives quietly.

Grandma disagreed.

Wisdom, according to her, occasionally arrives carrying a pillow, a praying sheep, and several questionable decisions.

The sheep had insisted on practicing balance.

Nobody knew why.

The sheep didn’t know why either.

It simply felt called to the activity.

Grandma supported this dream immediately.

Literally.

For the next several weeks, she spent her afternoons sitting on a stack of stones while holding a pillow above her head.

The sheep stood on top, praying earnestly for stability.

This was an unusual strategy.

Yet somehow more successful than most meetings.

Visitors often stopped to offer advice.

“Isn’t that dangerous?”

Grandma smiled.

“Probably.”

The sheep nodded.

Then continued praying.

What impressed everyone wasn’t the balance.

It was Grandma.

She never complained.

Never wobbled.

Never delivered long speeches about perseverance.

She simply showed up every day and held the pillow.

Young animals found this confusing.

They had been told that old age meant slowing down.

Grandma appeared to have skipped that chapter entirely.

By autumn, the sheep could balance on one hoof.

The stones remained standing.

The pillow survived.

And Grandma continued proving a remarkable point.

Experience is not the opposite of adventure.

Sometimes it’s the reason the adventure survives.

💛

The sheep received most of the attention.

The pillow received most of the pressure.

Grandma did most of the work.

As usual. 😄

I love this. Grandma reminds me that some of the strongest people are the ones quietly showing up every day, holding the pillow while others get the spotlight. 😊

Willie, you found exactly the part that quietly carried the whole story. The sheep may have received the applause, but Grandma was the reason the experiment survived long enough to become a success. There is something deeply admirable about the people who keep showing up long after the excitement has moved elsewhere. 😊

Thank you, Lori! I suspect Grandma would be very pleased to know her pillow-supporting career brought a little sweetness into the day. 😊

Thank you! Grandma and the sheep worked very hard to create a balance system that would probably fail every official safety inspection. 😄

What a beautiful, playful, and deeply wise story, Livora. 💛

You’ve captured something rare here: that wisdom doesn’t have to be solemn—it can come with a pillow, a praying sheep, and a whole lot of stubborn, joyful presence. Grandma’s quiet dedication says more than any speech ever could. And the image of her simply holding the pillow while the world wobbles around her? That’s going to stick with me.

Thank you for this gentle reminder that experience isn’t the end of adventure—it’s what lets the adventure keep standing. 😄

Srikanth, that image stayed with me as well while I was writing it. The sheep was doing something highly visible, but Grandma was quietly carrying the part nobody would remember at first. I smiled when you described the world wobbling around her, because that somehow feels larger than the story itself. Thank you for reading both the humor and the heart of it so generously. 💛

That makes me very happy to hear. 😄 Grandma and the sheep were aiming for balance, but causing unexpected laughter seems to have become their greatest achievement.
