Writing to remember, sharing to inspire

Not everything that enters… remains.

Morning had not fully settled when they walked toward the field.

Dew clung to the edges of the grass. The soil held the weight of the night. A thin mist stayed low, softening what could be seen.

The field had been left alone.

In some places, the ground had hardened like a path walked too often. In others, stones pressed through the surface. Thorned growth spread without effort.

A man stood at the edge.

He carried no seed.

His eyes moved slowly across the land, stopping where the ground resisted, where something would need to be removed before anything could be given.

The first strike met the soil with a dry sound.

Others came.

They worked without much speech. Earth turned. Stones lifted. Thorns cut and set aside.

By midday, they sat in the shade. Bread was broken. A few words passed, then faded.

They returned to the work.

Nothing was planted.

The next day looked the same.

Water was guided. The ground received it slowly. The surface was leveled again.

Days passed.

When the seeds came, the field no longer looked the same.

Nothing had grown.

Most of the time, nothing could be seen.

The ground received.

It did not always remain.

PART 1 — Where the Seed Fell

By the time they gathered, the shoreline had filled.

Some stood. Others sat. A few leaned forward, as if distance could be shortened by posture alone.

A small boat was pulled closer.

He stepped into it and sat.

The water moved beneath Him. The crowd quieted without being told.

He began.

A sower went out to sow.

Some seed fell along the path.

The ground there had been pressed down too many times. It did not open. The seed remained on the surface.

It did not stay.

Some fell on rocky ground.

The soil received it quickly. Something appeared. It rose faster than expected.

But it did not go down.

When the sun came, it did not remain.

Some fell among thorns.

The ground already held something else. What had been there continued to grow.

The seed remained.

It did not become.

And some fell on good soil.

There was no sound when it entered.

Nothing could be seen.

Time passed.

Then something appeared.

It remained.

He stopped.

The water touched the side of the boat. No explanation followed.

Only this:

He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Some stayed.

Others turned away.

Those who remained came closer.

They asked.

The answer did not begin with the soil.

It began with something given.

The seed is the word of God.

There are those who hear.

Nothing enters.

What is heard does not stay.

There are those who receive quickly.

Something appears.

It does not remain.

There are those who carry what they have heard into ground already full.

It grows.

It does not become.

And there are those who hold what they receive.

They do not release it.

Time passes.

It remains.

The lake did not change.

The ground beneath them did not move.

Nothing shifted.

Some carried what was spoken.

Some did not.

A deeply contemplative piece quiet, layered, and true to the spirit of Gospel of Luke 8:4–15.
It gently reminds us that the transformation is not in the seed, but in the soil of the heart.
As Augustine of Hippo suggests, the Word is offered to all but only those who prepare, receive, and hold it with patience truly see it remain.

Vijay, the way you centered the reflection on the soil rather than the seed aligns closely with how this passage holds itself. Nothing is lacking in what is given—the difference quietly rests in what receives.
Your reading keeps that distinction clear without needing to press it further.

    This is strong.

Main thing is simple. Not everything you hear from God stays in you.

Some people are closed off. Nothing gets in.
Some get it quick, but it fades.
Some are too full of other things, so it gets choked out.
And some actually hold onto it… and it grows.

Willie, the way you laid it out—closed, quick, crowded, and the one that holds—follows the same pattern the field reveals here. Nothing changes in the seed, yet each response leads somewhere different.
It stays simple, but it doesn’t stay small.

That’s true, Livora. Not all seeds take root in all soils… May we be the good soil!!!!🌱🌾🍀

Carolina & Catarina, that desire to be “good soil” rests quietly at the end of what is heard here. It doesn’t add to the message—it simply receives it.
Thank you for holding it that way.

There’s something haunting about how nothing seems to happen—and yet everything is being decided. The field was never empty; it was always choosing what would remain.

Ink_and_Embers, what you noticed—that nothing seems to happen while everything is being decided—sits very close to how this field is formed. The work is already taking place beneath what can be seen, long before anything appears.
The ground was never empty—it was already responding.
