Scripture References

  • “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.” (Matthew 6:22–23)
  • “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” (1 Peter 2:2)
  • “So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” (1 Corinthians 3:7)

Intro
The eye is a window, the ear a doorway, the heart a chamber, and the spirit once dead, awaiting mercy to awaken. Without His grace, every entry point of life is clouded and every chamber remains empty. But when God shines His light, life begins anew. It is like the first breath of a newborn, nourished with pure milk, growing under the steady warmth of love. The apostles themselves knew this truth: they could only plant or water, but the miracle of growth belonged entirely to God.

Historical Truth
In Jewish thought, the “eye” symbolized moral perception and inner focus. A healthy eye meant a life fixed on God’s ways, while an unhealthy eye implied greed, envy, or darkness. The early church echoed this view, teaching that true sight is restored only in Christ. History shows us that when the gospel opened blind eyes—whether in Corinth, Antioch, or Rome—societies shifted, families healed, and lives transformed. Spiritual light was never self-produced; it always flowed from the mercy of God breaking through human blindness.

Famous Quotes

  • “I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.” — John Newton
  • “God never uses anyone greatly until He tests them deeply.” — Corrie ten Boom

Conclusion
Eyes once blind are now lit with His mercy. Hearts once cold are now warmed with His presence. Life in Christ begins not with human striving but with divine awakening. Growth is not ours to manufacture; it is God’s gift, nurtured like newborns on the milk of His Word, watered by grace, and carried forward by His Spirit.

Contemporary Challenge
Today, many eyes are clouded by endless screens, ears dulled by noise, and hearts distracted by self-interest. We risk losing clarity of vision, confusing shadows for light. What must we do? Fix our eyes on Christ, crave His Word like infants hunger for milk, and allow His Spirit to awaken us daily. The church must remember: apostles, teachers, and leaders can sow and water, but only God gives life. When our eyes are full of His light, then our whole being will shine with the life that only He can give.

So good and so needed. It’s a clear reminder that true growth starts with God, not us. We can plant and water, but only His Spirit brings life. In a world full of noise and distractions, we need to keep our eyes on Jesus and crave His Word daily. Only then will we truly see and grow.

All Glory to Him who gives the light.
