Risen Authority

Ephesians 1:19–21 — Christ was raised and seated above all rule, authority, power, and dominion.
Ephesians 3:11 — God accomplished His eternal purpose in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Matthew 28:18–19 — “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.”

Introduction

The resurrection of Jesus is not merely the climax of His earthly ministry but the beginning of His universal reign. Paul in Ephesians declares that through the immeasurable greatness of God’s power, Christ was raised and enthroned above all powers in this age and the age to come. This enthronement was no accident but the fulfillment of God’s eternal purpose. Thus, the Great Commission carries divine legitimacy: the One who sends us is the One who reigns over all. The cross and resurrection remain inseparable—Isaiah’s prophecy of the Suffering Servant finds its completion in the risen and vindicated Christ.

Historical Reality

The resurrection is not myth but history. Josephus, though not a Christian, noted disturbances in Judea caused by “a certain Jesus” crucified under Pilate, whose followers claimed He rose again. Roman historians like Tacitus and Suetonius also acknowledged the rise of this movement rooted in resurrection hope. The early believers were willing to suffer and die for this truth—evidence of conviction, not illusion. Paul reminds us that Christ died for the ungodly while we were still powerless, and by His death and resurrection, we are adopted as God’s children who cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Notable Quotes

Martin Luther: “Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection not in books alone, but in every leaf of springtime.”
Corrie ten Boom: “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”

Conclusion

The resurrection and exaltation of Christ establish His eternal authority over all things. This is not a passing reign but the fulfillment of God’s eternal purpose. Christ now holds the present and the future in His hands. The mission of the Church flows from this reality—to declare and embody the wisdom of God before nations, peoples, and powers.

Contemporary Challenge

In today’s world, many reduce the resurrection to a metaphor rather than a historical and cosmic reality. This weakens the Gospel’s urgency and obscures the eternal purpose of God. The Church must reawaken with bold proclamation, both in word and in deed, that Jesus is not only risen but reigning. Our calling is to embody His Kingdom on earth with courage and hope until He comes again in glory.
