Final Awe

1 Corinthians 2:9
Habakkuk 1:5
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17

Introduction

The journey we have traced—from Christ’s resurrection to His enthronement, from Noah and Lot to Isaiah’s vision—points to one ultimate reality: God’s plan is both astonishing and unshakable. Paul declares, “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived—the things God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). The prophets, apostles, and Christ Himself affirmed that God’s eternal purpose culminates in glory for His children and judgment for those who reject Him.

Historical Reality

God’s plan is not myth but history unfolding before our eyes. Habakkuk proclaimed: “Look at the nations and watch—be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told” (Habakkuk 1:5). The resurrection of Jesus, the rapid spread of the Gospel across empires, and even the fall of Jerusalem in AD 70 all stand as undeniable proofs that God fulfills His word. Yet history points forward to a greater climax: Christ’s return, when “the Lord Himself will descend with a shout… and we will be caught up together with them in the clouds” (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17).

Notable Quotes

C.S. Lewis (man): “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
Fanny Crosby (woman): “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine.”

Conclusion

The eternal purpose of God in Christ reveals two destinies: awe or regret. For unbelievers, the warning is sobering—mockery and unbelief will end in loss. For believers, the promise is certain—adoption, inheritance, and everlasting glory with Christ. The works of God are not casual—they demand a response. The risen Christ, exalted above every power, now calls His Church to be His witness and His body on earth until the day He comes again.

Contemporary Challenge

Our age echoes the days of Noah and Lot: prophecy is mocked, eternal truth dismissed. Even within the Church, comfort can replace mission, and nostalgia dulls expectation. The challenge is urgent: awaken, watch, and work while it is day. When Christ returns, will we be found faithful, living as sons and daughters of God, or hesitant like Lot’s wife? The eternal purpose is unveiled; the choice is still ours.
