Writing to remember, sharing to inspire

Proverbs 4:23 –
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”

1 Corinthians 10:12 –
“Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.”

Ephesians 5:15 –
“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise.”

No one desires to slip. It is not only embarrassing but can also be dangerous, even fatal.

I remember my grandfather who once ignored his small blood-pressure pill. Such a tiny tablet, yet it kept his heart steady. He forgot it, collapsed, and after two weeks in the hospital, he never came home.

My grandmother also slipped once. She fell on the floor, broke both her arms, and even surgery could not restore her strength. She lived the rest of her life unable to use her hands.

In our ministry, I have met many who “slipped” in life.
Some fell lightly, others very heavily.
At times, the fall was due to ignoring clear warnings—like a bright yellow sign that says, “Caution: Wet Floor,” but the person was distracted on their phone.
Other times, it was caused by someone else’s carelessness—oil spilled on the ground, or even a cruel prank like throwing banana peels to laugh at those who fell.

We often feel safe on familiar paths, yet even there, danger can come when repairs are made, when signs are posted to slow down, and when caution is required. Those who ignore such warnings risk not only embarrassment but sometimes even their lives. Spiritually, the same truth applies.

Illustration
A man walks the same street every day and believes he knows every stone. One morning, construction has begun. A sign warns, “Danger: Walk Slowly.” He ignores it, keeps his pace, and suddenly the road gives way. What felt familiar became fatal because he would not listen.

Truth and Historical Validity

The Scriptures remind us again and again that spiritual “slipping” is real.

Israel’s history is filled with those who stumbled because they ignored God’s clear instructions.

The prophets, apostles, and even our Lord Himself warned His followers to stay awake, to be watchful, and not to grow careless.

Josephus, the Jewish historian, records how small acts of neglect led to great disasters for nations and leaders.

Slipping is not a fable—it is a repeated human reality, seen in kings, prophets, and even apostles.

Quotes
  • “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
    – Benjamin Franklin
  • “Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship.”
    – often quoted by Lydia Maria Child

Slipping is often sudden, but it is rarely without warning.
Whether it is a sign on the floor, a doctor’s instruction, or God’s clear command, the danger is real when warnings are ignored.
Spiritually, the cost of neglect is far greater than broken bones—it is the loss of joy, peace, or even eternal hope.

Present Challenge

Why is this warning often ignored today?

Because we feel too confident, too familiar with our own paths.

We assume we are safe, even when God posts warnings in His Word.

What must we do?

We must slow down, pay attention, and walk carefully in obedience.

We must be alert to the Spirit’s voice, so that even when the road is slippery, our steps will remain firm.
