Imagine a wealthy father who locks all his treasures inside one secure vault.
Outsiders may admire the magnificent building, but they cannot open the door.
Only his children, holding the father’s key, have access to the riches within.
In the same way, God has placed every spiritual treasure in Christ, and only through faith in Him do we gain access to this inheritance.
Here’s the irony:
many people admire spirituality from a distance, but never step inside to trust.
It’s like tourists taking selfies in front of a luxury bank, yet their wallets stay empty.
In Christ, however, the vault is opened wide — if only faith is the key.
Inheritance Through Christ
Before we speak of inheritance, we must first behold the heart of the Giver.
Scripture declares that every spiritual blessing is given “in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).
Which means, outside of Christ? Nothing.
We can chase satisfaction in career, wealth, or popularity, but in the end, it’s just like standing before an ATM flashing “Insufficient Funds.”
God has poured the fullness of His riches into the Son.
Whoever abides in Christ will never lack.
And here we might remember the story of Cael and Skye: though we received nothing directly from Cael, we still shared in the abundance of wealth through Skye.
One might say — Skye resembles Jesus, and Cael points to God the Father.
The riches flow to us not by direct grasping, but through the Son who carries them to us.
Inheritance & New Status
The historian Josephus recorded how earthly kings entrusted their treasures to an heir, sealed with his name. Likewise, God has stored every treasure in Christ, and all who believe are made heirs with Him.
The key word here is klēronomos (κληρονόμος) — “heir.”
In Roman law, an heir not only received property, but also bore the family name, status, and responsibility. Paul draws on this image when he writes: “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Gal. 3:29).
Aliens No More
Because by nature, we were not heirs.
Paul reminds us that we were “dead in trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1–2). Spiritually bankrupt — and worse, unaware of it.
Yet in Christ, the inheritance is unlocked: righteousness, eternal life, and fellowship with the Father.
And this gift is no longer reserved for one nation, but extended to all — Jew and Gentile alike.
Jesus said to Thomas: “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).
Faith, then, is the true key.
Without faith, the inheritance stays sealed.
With faith, the riches of Christ are opened wide.
Through baptism into His name, we put on Christ as our new garment — not a borrowed outfit, but our eternal identity.
Birthright
God’s inheritance is not earned, but received.
Just as a son does not labor to inherit his father’s estate, so we are born into God’s household by faith.
The world says, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.”
The Gospel answers, “Salvation is free — but not cheap. It was paid in full by Christ.”
Ephesians 1:3–14; Galatians 3:26–29; Romans 8:16–17; John 20:29
Quotes to Remember
- “A Christian is not merely forgiven; he is adopted, adorned, and endowed as God’s heir.” —
Charles Spurgeon - “Faith is the hand of the soul that takes hold of Christ, and with Him, all of heaven’s treasure.” — Corrie ten Boom
Reflection
To see the Father’s heart is to realize that our greatest security is not in what we do, but in what He has given through Christ. The only true riches are found in Him, and by faith we are already members of His eternal household.
So let’s not linger outside like window-shoppers at heaven’s store.
The door is open, the key is given, and the inheritance is waiting.
